My Undying Love

I may only be 22 years young and I may not have been around for the debut of the Beatles. The craze, excitement and controversy that happened in the world happened before I was born but through my family and friends I have found an undying love for these men that is with me every day of my life.

It all started when I was born into this world. Since June, 1990 I was listening to Beatles music at my Grandma and Papa's home in the country. Papa would put me on his lap and sing to me. My fond memories are made from stories that my mom, aunt and uncle would tell me. He would sing, play guitar and record songs that later we found on a tape he was creating for my Grandma.

I grew up falling in love with this music without even knowing the story behind it all. I fell in love with the calming sounds of their voices, the wonderful sounds of the music in the background as my mom would do dishes or clean the house.

I was probably 12 years old when I really started doing research on who the Beatles were. Who were these infamous men that were all over the posters in my house and the CD's in the car on the way to school? I did know one thing. I knew that they all had funny names; Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Ringo Starr [that one always made me laugh], and of course John Lennon [my ultimate favorite]!

I have lived my life loving them and listening to their music. When I was pregnant with my daughter I had a dream that my Papa came to me and said that I had named my child Lennon. It was then that I knew this legacy would live on forever in our hearts and we would always remember the wonderful sounds that used to fill our home with joy, love and laughter.

So, here's who they are and what they're all about - for those of you who don't know the Beatles you need to! Take a moment to listen, read, and learn.

My Favorites...

Sir Paul McCartney - is an English musician, singer-songwriter, and composer. Guinness World Records described McCartney as the "most successful composer and recording artist of all time", with 60 gold discs and sales of over 100 million albums and 100 million singles, and as the "most successful songwriter" in United Kingdom chart history! Pretty impressive, he has also taken part in projects to promote international charities related to such subjects as animal rights, seal hunting, landmines, vegetarianism, poverty, and music education.

Paul met Lennon at the age of fifteen and they started a band, The Quarrymen in 1957 which was a mix of rock and roll and skiffle; a type of music influenced by jazz, blues and folk. George Harrison Joined the band in 1958 as lead guitarist. By May of 1960 the band had changed their name several times; The Quarrymen to start it all off, The Silver Beatles, Johnny and The Moondogs. They finally chose the name, The Beatles, in 1960 and recruited Pete Best as their drummer.

The band stayed strong until 1970 when disagreements caused McCartney to leave the group. It took five long, more than likely tough years for the Beatles to be legally dissolved as a band.

In 10 years they made a historical impact on the world! A magnificent blend of music has changed the lives of musicians and music lovers around the world.

Learn more about The Beatles

John Lennon - MY FAVORITE, Can ya tell? October 1940 – 8 December 1980. Lennon was an English musician, singer and songwriter who rose to worldwide fame as a founder member of the Beatles, one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed acts in the history of popular music. With Paul McCartney, he formed one of the most celebrated songwriting partnerships of the 20th century.

Lennon revealed a rebellious nature and acerbic wit in his music, writing, drawings, on film and in interviews. Controversial through his political and peace activism, he moved to New York City in 1971, where his criticism of the Vietnam War resulted in a lengthy attempt by Richard Nixon's administration to deport him, while some of his songs were adopted as anthems by the anti-war movement.

Rolling Stone has names John Lennon the fifth greatest singer of all time [in 2008]. Among many things, Lennon was a poet, a writer, an artist and a musician. The Times Literary Supplement considered the poems and stories "remarkable ... also very funny ... the nonsense runs on, words and images prompting one another in a chain of pure fantasy".

A remarkable man who is at the root of this Beatles crazy in the world lost his life too quickly. At around 10:50 pm on 8 December 1980, as Lennon and Ono returned to their New York apartment in The Dakota Mark David Chapman shot Lennon in the back four times at the entrance to the building.
Ono issued a statement the next day, saying "There is no funeral for John", "John loved and prayed for the human race. Please pray the same for him." His body was cremated in NYC and Yoko Ono scattered his ashes in New York's Central Park, where the Strawberry Fields memorial was later created. The memorial is a beautiful place.

When I was in High School I had the trip of a lifetime - I went to Central Park one day and sat there at the memorial and said a prayer. All of my classmates looking at the statues and art in the park that day and I took a moment of silence to say a prayer. It was the most memorable experience of my life. People from NYC area are always coming to lay flowers on this beautiful art in the middle of Central Park.

RIP: John Lennon.
